My wife and I are planning a trip next summer (grumble grumble) with another couple. They all look to me for Vegas related answers, but they asked me a question I didn't know the answer to: "Where can we go dancing?" Now, we are not going to want to go to some "hot club" as none of us are into that kind of music. (Not to mention I know my wife would probably faint at the price of drinks and such... She's kinda frugal...) Is there any place that just has live music and a more 30-40 year old crowd?

The always reliable Carnival Court and I am not sure how Cleopatra's barge is anymore since they put in Mat Goss but it use to be good.

Never hung out at Carnival Court. Is it a daytime thing or on through the evening?

I've been there in the day time and the evenings and it's a mixed crowd. At least, that's been my experience. I've seen all ages from the younger crowd to grandmas showing their underwear on stage. :icon_eek: I like it. During the day the play all sorts of music. What I don't like is when a boring live band plays....or the barking guy....

They might like Margaritaville at the Flamingo or Toby Keith's at Harrah's.

Tiki,
they stay open late and the bands are always cover bands and when they take breaks there is a DJ. The only time it ever sucked there was when Cookie E Jar was playing. Think bad karaoke with him trying to sell his CD every 5 minutes! :banghead:

If I recall correctly there is a bar at RIO that has a live band and people dance at it... sorry I don't recall the name.

My recommendation would be Carnaval court, day or evening. Especially in summer. Drinks are high, but not quite club prices. Hit a happy hour first or something, and it will take some of the sting out.

Ok, sounds good. I'm not used to having to worry about such things. I'm usually slumming it downtown at the Plaza or ElCo... ;)

One more thing about carnival court I noticed this May, they added New Castle on tap! :drinkingcheers:

Adding quality beer is a good thing, but I'm more of an IPA kind of guy. Not a fan of the maltier brews... ;)

Several casinos have the traditional lounges with live bands (Paris, MB, PH, V, etc.). Those types of places are probably your best bet, other than CC. For a club-type experience without the cover or lines, there's Eyecandy at MB. I also have enjoyed Gilley's. It's not always country, they do some rock too, and it's a fairly mixed crowd.

Where's Gilley's these days?

Ok. Actually, TI might be a good base of operations for us as well. I've stayed at the Mirage a couple times, but never TI.

Now that Rog mentioned Paris, I liked the music they were playing there when I was there in May. Very laid back kind of place, plenty of places to sit, too.

I really like TI's rooms, and the prices are good. It's my second favorite on-strip cheap-trip hotel (2nd to Monte Carlo)

TI was pretty popular when we were there in Feb. I like the TI/Mirage area because it's pretty centrally located and you can walk most places. J likes TI because the casino is easy to navigate and it's a quick walk to the elevator. Love their rooms, the beds are pretty comfy. Try to get some rooms on a very high floor if you can. If you are a card player, you might enjoy it there for the daytime lower $$$. I played a lot of 2-3 dollar tables, they up the price about 5, espeically on weekends. Not sure if this is still going to be going on next summer, but I sure hope it is!

I would love to stay at the Mirage, never have before, it looks so pretty.

Is M a shopper? TI is right next to the mall, but I'm sure the mall has the same stores as Seattle does, might not be as fun.

The mall might be a good distraction - I mean activity - for the girls to spend some time together. ;)
