I don't really understand this. From what I have read, Crimea used to be part of Russia but was "given" to Ukraine on some apparent whim? If this is true then no wonder they all voted to return. Doesn't seem much different than the break-up of the USSR.

Putin of course is a different issue, not sure where he's going to lead Russia eventually but I have a bad feeling about it.....

Ukraine and Crimea were all part of the USSR, but were lumped together during the break up due to geographical proximity. The mix of ethnicities was supposed to be similar too.

Putin is another matter altogether. Very scary guy.

It also flows back to Stalin who seeded Crimea with a lot of ethic Russians so they could claim just what they are doing today!
