Here is a refurb of what appears to be a Windows version of the same model......for $269, which is $70 more than a new Chromebook......

Well, the latest Chromebook is a joke. I would never buy a $1000+ Chromebook. Even with a cute name "Pixel." Duh. They will sell two of these........

Yikes!! The $199 works just fine and is great for what it is, no reason to buy a higher priced one since they will all do the same thing.

New Chromebook C& coming out, but the only difference is a 16GB SSD instead of a 320GB HD. I am not sure this will go over so well, but I wonder if the original C7 will now be even less than $199......

Rog, do you know when that new chromebook is coming out?

Kate is on a very old (I'm not saying HOW old) laptop that has been handed around the house. It's so slow. She actually has things to work on this summer, so I am thinking of picking up a chromebook for her.

It's already out. Just remember that this new version has a speedy but very small 16GB solid state drive instead of the much higher capacity regular hard drive on the original.

I did not see the original one go on sale for less than the $199 price, I guess that price is just too low already.

What kind of things does she have to work on? The Chromebook does have it's set of limitations.

$30 more and you have a Dell Win7 laptop with a full Core i3 chip. I have this model, it is a fantastic laptop for this price.

$170 for a refurb Chromebook, this is the version with the 320GB hard drive. But only a 90 day warranty. I wonder if they raised the list price to $229 now. I got mine for $199.

I actually dislike Acer as well, but this deal was too good to pass up.

Editing of Word, Excel, etc is possible if you use Microsoft's Skydrive. Upload the docs and you can edit them right in the browser.

I wish Chrome OS had some sort of real file manager, that is one thing I find really annoying.

You can also edit them in google "drive" as well. They "word", "excel", etc... are there under the "create" pull down menu.

So last night I stuck an SSD into the $129 refurb I bought. I used the recovery stick I had made, but the recovery failed three times in a row. So I got another stick and made another recovery drive, thinking that maybe the recovery drive was out of date. Sure enough, it worked the first time.

So you may want to update your recovery drive.....seems to defeat the purpose of having the drive though. They ought to fix that.

Groupon currently has refurb Chromebooks for $139. Not as good as the $129 deal I got, but still good. This is the 16GB SSD version, not the 320GB hard drive.

Groupon Chromebooks for $130. This is the 16GB version. 90 day warranty.

The newly released Chromebooks have Haswell chips and thus better battery life, the least expensive ones are $199.
