They are actually already here.

Be careful what you click on......

Be careful what emails you open.......

Apple already took down the "we don't get viruses" thing last year, I think.

I am wondering if I should get some sort of antivirus software. I use my own mac for work, so if it comes down with something, there won't be too much help from work available for me.

Believe it or not, I got a virus by running a Malware Bytes scan the other day. Where it normally shows threats it had something strange listed. But I thought I could trust an anti-virus scan site and clicked okay, thinking it would clean whatever it was. After closing it I found out it totally killed Firefox. I lost it and it wouldn't allow a new download of it. IE was still there. And to boot, it wouldn't let me reset to an earlier date in Normal Mode. I had to go to Safe Mode and reset to 48 hours earlier. After that I was okay.

Histo, that's odd. I did a malwarebytes scan recently and had no issues.
what anti-virus scan site?? --- some sites are not actual anti-virus scan sites -- they are malware sites saying they are anti-virus sites.

I was referring to Malwarebytes itself, Evan. I used the word 'virus' when I should have said 'Trojans' or 'spyware'.

I have read of other people having rebooting or similar problems on a Malwarebytes forum. It doesn't appear to be wide spread though. Just the luck of the draw that time.

link is a document written in 1989 ftp://ciac.llnl.gov/pub/ciac/sectools/m ... /mac89.txt

They have been hiding that they have viruses & malware for a long time.

The only thing I have ever gotten on a Mac was a worm, years ago. I would hear my drive suddenly spin up, looked it up online, found out what it was, downloaded a fix, and killed the worm in minutes.
