I looked for the Dollar thread and I was unable to find it. :scratchheadblue:
so a new one.
Wow I got a better deal by about 5-6 dollars a day but man the prices are all over the place.

You may want to check prices again. I just checked Dollar for my trip in 10 days. Economy car was less than $7 a day for the weekend.

I would have booked it, but for 5 days with all the taxes, it would have been more expensive than the cab ride to and from the airport.

OK, it must be the days you selected. I just checked rates again this morning. They are still really low for my trip next weekend. But, I still won't use the car enough to justify renting. Here's the screen grab from a few minutes ago.

$6.63 a day for an economy car!!

Nope, I'm a big fat loser. I will be going solo again on this trip. So, no problem fitting just me and my one bag into an economy car. But, after you add on taxes for the 5 days and the Airport surcharge. It still costs more than the cab ride to and from the airport.

Too bad I couldn't find these rates back in October.

We don't rent with Dollar direct, because the taxes and fees are horrible. In addition we would have to take out insurance because ours doesn't cover us in the USA. We have been getting rentals for around £16 per day including the extra driver and a full tank of fuel.

Just checked. My rates went up to around the $12-15 range.

Pebbles, I agree with you. Even though the rates were cheap, the cost of taxes and airport fee was more than the actual rental fees.

I booked an Avenger for $77 for the week. The next day it was up to $200. Prices are all over the board. Just have to watch. I rebooked this a couple times before it bottomed out at $77.
