With the article posted in the News section about cab rates to downtown it's gotten me wondering... What does a cab cost these days to get downtown?

Tell the driver, Swenson to Harmon to Paradise to E. St Louis to Las Vegas Blvd to Fremont. And no $%^&*. Depending on traffic, that should run you around $20 to $25 before the tip

Huh, I always take the freeway in my rental. I suppose distance-wise it's a lot farther.

We'll be coming into town at 4:20PM. Will that impact that route Histo?

I use these sites to check prices.

http://taxi.state.nv.us/FaresFees.htm

http://www.taxifarefinder.com/

The first one gives a cost of $24.47 before tip. The second one takes the tunnel and gives a fare of $43.91 including a 15% tip.

The 108 or the WAX will get you Downtown for a lot less.

WAX scedule.
108 schedule.

$2 each for a single trip or $5 for a 24 hour pass.

How many of you are there? We've ridden the bus to Downtown twice from the airport. It's pretty easy, and considering the length of the taxi lines sometimes, it may well be quicker.

You will be affected then by commuter traffic with folks getting out of work. Though the east/west roads are worse than the north/south, which you'll be on for the most part, the wait at lights will be longer. $30 might be a closer total. But if you are sharing with two others, it will still be less than the shuttles and get you to the ElCo a lot quicker.

As Elaine indicated, the tunnel, I-15 route nearly doubles the price. And the 'Spaghetti Bowl, at that time of day, will be a real goat-screw. Besides, major construction will be going on along the 15 for the next month and a half. Avoid it at all costs.

Cool, thanks Histo. This is the first time I've gotten to Vegas before 2:00PM...

Thanks Pebs, those sites look like a good place to start. Maybe they have an Android app... ;)

We've decided that we'll try buses during our stay, but I know that after we get off the plane the last thing we're going to want to do is sit on a bus for an hour before even getting to our hotel. ;)

Both are about 35-40 minutes ride to Downtown. I've spent longer than that in the cab line before today. How much luggage will you all have?

Picky, picky, picky... Yeah, you're right. I meant I've never arrived in Vegas AFTER 2:00PM.

Smartass... :icon_wink:

Well... I'll think about it. If cab prices are going up we might just rent a car anyway, as I'm not sure my pals are the bus riding types. Although one of them recently spent a year and a half in Europe and relied quite heavily on public transit when visiting cities. So we'll see.

The SDX is the one you want for a piss up at Town Square.

There are some very nice places at Town Square, but like you, we nearly always drive to it, or go during the day when a drink wouldn't be appropriate.

An upscale non-enclosed mall.Mid level shops and very nicely designed. The lighting makes it a very pleasant place to visit in the evening. Its on the west side of LVB South by the 215 Beltway.

When you're in Vegas, there's no such thing as an inappropriate time to drink..... :icon_coffee: ◄ Bailey's in that coffee.... :icon_wink:

There's a location of Yard House there, but who needs to go that far down LVB for a place with good food and an extensive beer selection.... Town Square is more of a place for locals as opposed to tourists.

When you are there for as long as we are, there are a lot of inappropriate times to drink. Just saying. :icon_wink: :icon_wink:

After spending a weekend using a bus pass to get around I have to say it was in fact really easy. However, next time we are renting a car. The bus system is just too slow. I know that a car isn't going to get through traffic any faster, at least I won't be tied to specific routes and forced to wait at bus stops every few blocks.

Besides, I think we're planning a trip out to Red Rock canyon as well.
