I just realized that Southwest has an Android app. (Presumably for the other phones as well, but I'm not sure...) It's even easier and faster to use then the website.

Looking at the fares, SW may be our airline for October. I haven't flown ANYTHING but Alaska since 1990, so I'm curious to see how it is. How dead-on do you have to be to get the "A" pass? Exactly 24 hours ahead of the flight or can you slack an hour or two?

no slacking for an A pass. Even paying $10 doesn't guarantee an A pass.

$10? I never saw any optional fees... Online or by Android...

The last flight I took the flight attendant cleverly said "C stands for center seat". Please just sit down so we can go.

Ahhh. Ok, not sure I care enough to spend $20 round trip per person.

Next Southwest question... When you check-in 24 hours in advance, can you check in your entire party at once or does it have to be done separately, by the person using that ticket?

I have their app, it is great to check on flight status. I used it just recently when I had to pick up the rents at MDW. They have a cell phone parking lot so I could check to see if they landed and never have to walk into the terminal.

I believe it has to be done separately. If you buy one early bird pass, one person can board with the A or B pass, and then save seats for the other people in your party. As long as its not 10 people. I have done this the past few times. I will pay the $10 for my Early Bird and then save a seat for my wife. Some people give you a dirty look, but I just throw my carry on on the seat and most people just think she is in the bathroom or something.

You check in 24 hours in advance by confirmation number, and then type in your name. Anyone traveling under that number (as was my grandson this last time) get's checked in with whoever's name is typed in below the number. Also if you are on connecting flights, the second leg seating is assigned at that same 24 hour mark, even though the connecting flight is still more than 24 hours away.

I love the SWA app on iphone. Great for checking in from a VP machine!

You have to check in each confirmation number separately. I usually try to do this from a computer and just pull up each conf no. in a different browser and have them ready to go at the designated time. Not really a huge deal, just get one done right at the 24 hour mark and you can hold seats for the others.

Excellent idea Snotick, I think I'll do that!

Thanks guys, so as long as all three tickets are bought at the same time they all get checked in together. Nice.

I'm not used to this type of flight. Last time I bought a ticket on alaska, I got to pick my seat as part of the purchase. Since it's just a short three hour flight I can live with non-assigned seats, but if I was going any farther than that I think I'd rather not risk endingup with a center seat between Dumbo and Shamu because I couldn't get an 'A' boarding pass.

Yesterday we boarded around the halfway mark of the A group.Families with kids board betwee A and B. When a couple with a small child came in and sat in front of us, we got up and beat a hasty retreat to the last row. That kid, now about ten rows away cried and squalled the whole flight from Phoenix. But thanks to the SWA boarding policy it wasn't a problem for us. Had those seats been assigned it would have been terrible.
