Okay I am going to make my first (legal) sports bet this trip. I know nothing about it. Help!

It's a pretty basic bet - Bruins to win the Cup

Odds are odds, not matter what casino you go to, right?

How do I collect when I WIN (and I will)?

Odds will likely be different depending on the casino, your best bet is to review the sheets at a couple different places, for something like Championship, they should have odd sheets for the NHL, and a reference number which you can then tell the book you want to bet on.

I got the Sox to win the WS at Bellagio last trip and they gave me an addressed envelope to mail my ticket in when I win. Pretty sure you can mail in for any sports book now. Of course, it's not like a personal visit to collect would be a problem.

When I was out there during the World Cup last summer, several of us in the group decided to throw in a couple of bucks on Germany to win the World Cup. The idea came up while sitting at the Breeze Bar at Treasure Island when one of the guys grabbed a sheet from the sport book. The odds they were giving Germany were not as good as what the sports book at the Golden Nugget (where most of the group was staying), as I had checked the numbers earlier in the afternoon as I was putting a bet down on USA-England. We ended up making the bet at the Golden Nugget instead.

What's odd, is that when I was out there in March, I didn't see any sort of futures betting for the NHL at any of the sports books I went into. I couldn't even find any sheets for them either. In retrospect, I'm halfway glad I didn't do any, as one of teams I was planning on betting on is now out.

Was it the Capitals? I am making a bet for a friend too, or I WAS, until the Caps were swept :yahoo:

Flyers, because at the time, they were the best in the East. I was giving the Bs some thought as well. Was also going to bet on the Canucks.

The sports book at the Trop is good for NHL betting as well.

One of the clerks at the Nugget cost me $20 when I was out there. I had decided to put a bet down on the Devils-Pens game and he talked me into betting the puck line (Devils had to win by 2 goals) instead of the money line. Had I stuck with the money line, I would have won. I was telling the clerk at the Trop when I put a bet on the Thrashers-Panthers game about that and he said that he never tries to talk bettors into betting a different line that what they want to bet.

That's really amateur-hour. That ignorant clerk should have kept his mouth shut for exactly the reason you stated, that you now feel he cost you that money. I don't like chatty clerks in the book.

I won two of three bets with the B's over the Habs & then won the first two over the Flyers. Wish I had bet them in game three too. Might have to keep riding them in the next round.
Btw... I have Nehro to win the Derby
