If you are dealt a flush but you have 4 cards to a Royal...
question: to you keep the sure thing or do you discard one card to try to get the royal?

I guess the same could be asked if you have a straight and one card off from a royal.
Do you discard the one card to try for the royal?

Personally I would keep the 4 to a royal, but I believe the correct call is just to keep the dealt flush.

My feeling is the potential payoff makes it worth sacrificing the flush. However if it's a straight flush,9 to K, I'd take that payout.

I think the straight flush Histo mentioned is the only situation where you would not go for the royal. Definitely go for it if regular flush with 4 to a royal.

Has anyone hit it that way? (discard a card, from a winning hand, in-order to improve your hand)

The four or five Royals I've had, have been something of a surprise. Perhaps I've held three one time, maybe twice. The biggest surprise, as I reported in the past, was having the Royal dealt to me, bang! on the first push of the Deal button.

What is this "royal" you speak of?

Not a royal, but I hit a straight flush once by dropping a dealt straight. I don't think that was the correct play, but it is gambling after all.

All my royals, I've held either 2 or 3 cards.
