I wasn’t planning to write a TR since I never took any notes during my trip but since there was some booth babes and Dave was there to take the pictures… I have typed up some notes.

Sunday
I landed a little early (7pm). While waiting at baggage claim there was a super narrow woman standing in front of me.
She looks like half of what everyone else is.

Went to Wynn to play some poker after I picked up my rental.
I Wynn left up around $100. I then went to RIO to check-in and call it a night.

Monday
I woke up and went to Mirage for poker. I had no luck there and lost $220. From there I went onto Venetian. I proceeded to slowly lose $200 and went onto Wynn. This is where it was ridiculous. I lost hands where I should of won. I have A2 and the flop was A82. Eventually all in and I lost to pocket 8s. YUCK. Another hand I had JQ, the flop was JJK (two hearts). I went all in to push out the flush, but the flush-draw calls anyways and wins. There were two other killing hands. I think they were Flush over straight and Full house over full house. So I lost $400 at Wynn. Sadly I was doing pretty decent until I hit all those bad beats.
From Wynn I decided to slow things down by going back to my room to rest.
After my rest, I headed over to PH to play some poker before the 7pm meet-up. Here I did fairly well and left up around $100 after about an hour of playing.
I headed over to Cosmo and was there for no more than 30 minutes when I had to head to the airport to pickup Dave.
I brought him back to Cosmo to meet everyone else and I can see everyone. It was great to see everyone. Wish I could of hung out longer.

Sadly I wasn’t there long, Dave was itching to eat. From there we headed over to Gold Coast to have the steak and lobster special for $10 with the purchase of a beverage. :hungry:
Cortez was the name of the restaurant. When we first walked up they asked if we had made a reservation. Dave and I look at each other. (dude this is Gold Coast ) Well they sat us in the bar section which we didn’t care. The seating was comfortable and very quiet. We were able to talk without feel like someone was ease dropping.
Here comes the good and the bad. The service was slow as can be imaginable. (We sat down at 8:30pm) The steak and lobster came with a salad or soup plus one side. I picked a salad but Dave chose French Onion soup as an a la carte upgrade. The salad I got was the most pathetic thing I have ever seen. I should of take a picture of it. It was like 12 pieces of lettuce and two pieces of purple cabbage. And two pieces of carrot and a normal amount of dressing in a small ramkin. In the end I used less than half the dressing … and every leaf of lettuce was soaked with dressing. (that is how pathetic the salad was).
Dave said he had the best French Onion soup he ever had and I agree it looked pretty good and I regretted not getting it.
The server drops off the main course. Dave and I both ordered medium rare.(and I described what I was looking for – pink throughout and red in the niddle) His was between rare and medium rare. My steak was between medium and well done. (very little pink). Essentially too done. I waited a little while for the server to come back to see how everything was. Well he never showed up again until to ask if we wanted dessert. I pointed out the last two pieces I had left and asked him how this steak was prepared. He said medium. I said I ordered medium rare. He proceeded to “correct” himself by saying it was medium rare that looked close to medium. Essentially he would not admit the steak was overdone.
No big deal but I want to see what he would do. Which was nothing. The steak was a step up above Outback but nothing special. The lobster was fine. (not sure how they could screw that up).
We proceeded to wait another 15 minutes for our check. The people next to us were less patient and got up and started asking various servers for their check. We finally got our check. Here is the oddity: I want to mention the French Onion soup ($6) was not discounted even though the dinner came with soup but Dave decided to upgrade. So I asked the server (our crappy server) “could he (Dave) had gotten a salad or soup at no other charge since the French onion was charged at full rate”. His response: Oh yeah! As if all you needed to do was ask but I wasn’t going to tell you. This server was the biggest piece of $%^&*. We finally got out of the restaurant around 10:15.
Some other notes about the restaurant. The interior reminds me of the old Binions lower lever restaurant. The place acts first class, by using a cart to shuffle food around. It was very awkward and out of place. I guess this is some old fashion thing. They sat anyone wearing shorts or jeans in the bar section while seating people (generally all over the age of 65) in the main restaurant.
Besides the server, all others were top notch. The guy refilling the drinks did a good job. Plus the staff clearing the plates did it in a timely manner. I would go back to Cortez to give it another chance but I pray I don’t get the same server or the same salad. (end of Cortez rant)

Dave and I played a little at Gold Coast before we called it a night.

Tuesday
We headed over to Palms for the breakfast buffet. I consider this the best deal in town. Less than $7 with player’s card. The food is average with all other breakfast buffets, but considering what they want (money wise) across the street at RIO… it’s a no brainer. Plus, they serve good OJ in a tall glass.

From there we headed to MB for Interop Convention. It was to start at 10:30 and when we got there they had posted everywhere it was to start at 4:30. WHAT!! Well we signed in we headed over to the poker room to see if there was a game going. There were 3-4 people at the table and I made 4-5. (this is where it gets good) I asked the dealer if the rake was reduced. He looked at me and ask “what?” I then repeated if the rake is reduced? He then asked what rake? (this is where it got interesting he was acting all stupid like he had no idea what I was talking about) I said the house rake. Then he comes back with “rake?” like he didn’t know what the word meant. I then stopped the table game, got up and said if you don’t have a reduced rake I’m leaving. (All other players had no idea what I was talking about) He then was oh no sit down don’t worry about the rake. I said to eliminate the rake until there are more players or reduce it or I was leaving. Then he suddenly knew what I was talking about and called the manager over to get an approved reduction. I then explained everything to the other players at the table. I think it was pretty $%^&* of Mandalay Bay to initially not reduce the rake when the right thing to do was to reduce the rake. At most places, I know of, they automatically reduce the rake but if they don’t automatically reduce it – you just simply ask ONCE and get it reduced. I think I left ahead $120 after 30-45 minutes. It was pretty easy since all the other players were newbies.
From here we went downtown the details are a little confusing and mixed up. What I do remember. Dave sat down at Pawn Stars slot machine and played 25 cents on his very spin he hit the bonus game and landed up winning $14 and cashing out right then.
Image
Image
We played a little a TheD and got a lot of action/ time on their slot machine. Plus we saw the Sigma Derby upstairs.
Image
Image
We also played at Fremont and Golden Nugget. We had the 2 for 1 lunch at Binions.
Some other notes downtown. Two pictures of construction for the slotzilla zipline.

Then we headed back to MB for the convention and it was rog compliant. See booth babes below.

We stayed until they kicked us out. It was to closed around 7:30 and I think we left shortly after that. I then rushed Dave to the airport. We cut it close.
After I dropped off Dave I called Skybank to see what was going on. (around 8:30pm) Unfortunately I was on speaker phone while I was driving (no hands-on phone calling in NV permitted and I didn’t want to get pulled over) and couldn’t understand a thing Skybank was saying He repeated it several times and I was not getting what he was saying so in the end I headed to Wynn for poker. (sorry sky I must of sounded like I was drunk dialing) I was doing much better at poker this time around. Only problem was I stayed there until 2am …ARG. I think I left ahead $100-200.

Wednesday
I woke up as late as I could and checked out. (Here is a possible great suggestion.) I wanted to apply my credits to my room bill since I am pretty sure I won’t be back in Vegas until next year . So I called the front desk to see how to get my player’s card credit applied to my room bill. Well she did that over the phone and checked me out over the phone. The quickest check-out ever!! I will always do this in the future.
I headed over to Wynn there were no open seats so I went and played a couple slot machines. One of them was a $10 machine and I landed up winning $250 which in the end meant I was ahead $110 from the all machines I was playing. When I got back to the poker room they had a 2/5 seat available, so I played that. Slight mistake. I didn’t lose too much but I never got any good hands and when I got a hand someone else beat me. I slowly lost $600 over several hours which was not bad for 2/5.
I returned the car and got to the airport with no wait at the TSA screening. :clapyellow:

Final notes. The deli in Wynn has a fantastic Pastrami sandwich. Not your typical cut.
Looking out the window of RIO is a sign for Outback Steakhouse with no Outback in sight.

Post MGM façade remodel. It looks like the lion has changed. :scratchheadblue: Anyone else feel this way?

Image

Rio buffet prices are crazy expensive and the lack of any line to eat there confirms this.

Image

Has the change from lunch to dinner has always been 3pm????????????

Boeing has finally designed the new 737-800 with toilet seats that stay up while you pee. A true engineering marvel. :icon_rolleyes:

The End

Great report and pictures!

Yes, the Lion definitely looks different. Weird, actually. Not sure I like it.

I always knew there were aliens in Vegas. :icon_wink:

Thanks Alora
Mychal, There is always another time. Hopefully after I win the 350 Million lottery and meet at my Suite at palms with the pool. I will hire a bunch of female waitresses to serve drinks.
Silver, is that was it is? Looks funky to me.. Looks like they starved their lion.

oh, that makes me recall how Gold Coast seems to cater their table games to Asians. It seemed to be working since they were fairly crowded. Plus, other note on their casino was; they had a million different types of Video Poker.

Nice report Evan, typically lunch to dinner has been at 3pm at most of the of the buffets. Prices for breakfast and lunch at the average ones has gotten a bit ridiculous.

If you're staying at the Rio and don't care if it's a mega-buffet or not, you are better off just walking over to the Gold Coast. With the B-Connected card, breakfast is $5.99 and lunch is $7.99. Then $9.99 for dinner, $10.99 Sunday brunch and $19.99 for Friday prime rib and seafood dinner.

Great report, Evan.
