Asus just released a $300, 10" (1366x768), 2.6 lb Win8 laptop. I'd call it a netbook because it has a Celeron processor, but it's actually kind of in between, because that processor is significantly more powerful than the usual weak Atom processors. When the price drops from MSRP, and if the HD is reasonably accessible, I might give this a try.

I love my netbook, which I have now had for 3 years. I chose it as it had up to 9 hours battery life. I have no idea what it is now working at, but it's a good few hours between charges.

I have a traditional laptop, which I never really got on with as it was too heavy to carry about or take on holiday. I also managed to kill the battery within a year due to having it permanently plugged into the mains. I made sure I didn't make that mistake with the netbook.

I also have the Blackberry Playbook and don't get on with that either as I need a keyboard for posting on forums. All I've used it for is taking photos on holiday.

I use a desktop at home and the netbook on holiday and I could quite happily use the netbook at home all the time if I had to.

Here's a review. Some people have complained about the difficulty of changing out the HD, if that's true then I'll pass, if not then I might give it a try.

Love the portability of my three year old netbook. 275 is a great price, I'm tempted to upgrade

I've seen it for even less. I don't think it will be too long before it hits $249.....

Much more powerful than the typical netbook, but a tab bigger and heavier: $230 open box Dell 11.6" with a Core i3 chip (not Atom or Celeron).
