This is going to be a birthday gift for my mother. I want to get a device that get ebooks from the library but i don't know what type of 'reader' is the best options for her. Kindle? Nook? What is the best option for the money?

Do you know if she uses a particular site for ebooks? Barnes and Noble versus Amazon?

I absolutely love my Fire HD, and the little ones are only $200...

I don't know how the library thing works, we get our books through Amazon.

The Kindle Paperwhite is a great ebook reader. Very small, light, with an integrated backlight and looooong battery life. A big improvement over the prior kindles.

The Fires are neat devics but if she's going to be using it primarily for reading, a dedicated reader would be easier on the eyes.

Rog, do you belong to Amazon Prime and have access to book loan? That. Paperwhite looks attractive. My concern is once I buy a book and finish reading it, it will be of little value to me. Unless there is a program (buy back?) I'm not aware of.

She doesn't do anything. I know she checks out books at the library. I figured this would save her a trip to the library.

Evan,
Call the library and ask which one they recommend. I'm sure they get lots of feedback from patrons.

I concur with Rog about the Kindle Paperwhite, it's very nice.
