Anyone tried Tacos El Gordo? it's in a little strip mall with Strip Liquor and Lee's Discount Liquor on the strip just north of Wynn/Encore. Some of the best tacos I've ever had!

My Favorites
Lengua
Cabeza
Pork Adobada
Quesadilla - They make a taco out of the quesadilla. DELICIOUS!
Carne Asada

They make the Pork Adobada Al Pastor style...and if you're lucky you'll get a slice of the pineapple that adorns the top of the spit. So amazing and the prices are fair.

Thanks for the tip. I'll add it to my (ever growing) list of places to hit.

I hit it every time I'm there now. The lines are always crazy...and it's kinda weird but some of the lines you can only get certain meats. Your best bet is the be in the middle line; I've gotten everything from that line...but when my friend tried to get Carne Asada from the line on the far right they kinda made a fuss but ended up getting it for him anyway. Apparently their setup behind the counter is not conducive to providing all meat options in each line.

Sounds like they are not forgiving to the first timers. which line is for chicken? is it on the same side as Wynn (I assume so, I recall a little strip mall there before Riv)
I have enjoyed El Segundo Sol located in the Fashion Mall (on corner on LVB) I get restaurant.com vouchers there

Yes, it's on the same side of the strip as the Wynn...it's in that first strip mall right after Wilbur Clark D.I. Road north of Wynn. As for which line is chicken...I'm not totally sure but I wasn't denied anything in the middle line...And I may have overstated how much of a "fuss" they really made...but I just remember thinking "I'm sticking with the middle line".

Yeah, i've heard great things about El Segundo Sol. I'll have to check it out when i'm there.

We had Carne Asada there a couple of times. Can't remember having to get in a specific line for it.

I tried it but it was too much of a calorie hit that I couldn't do much about.......everyone raves but I guess I am in the minority. I'd go for the shrimp fajitas at El Segundo Sol instead.

I think people rave about it because they have never been to a real taqueria. You have to remember most people are only exposed to Mexican food via Pepe's or some type of chain.

Well they originated in Tijuana...that seems pretty real to me.

I wasn't really commenting on their food, more so about people's perception of a food they usually do not have access to at home. :icon_biggrin:

So Rick, you're saying my litmus test for Mexican should not be Taco Bell? I'm devastated!

I've heard the Doritos taco is Taco Bell's most successful new product launch.....

Maybe it's just too authentic for me. I just don't like it when places cut up the meat/chicken without removing all of the fatty parts, but that's probably just how they do it in Mexico. Even supposedly healthy places like Chipotle do that, I ended up picking away at least 1/3 of the chicken when I tried Chipotle. When I went to El Gordo they gave me a free side of the grilled onions but they were drenched and dripping in oil. For a while I thought maybe I would give them another try given the consistently great reviews, but then I looked at the pics on Yelp and it's just what I remember......

The to-go tacos they used to have at El Segundo were better for me, I got them plain and they were flavorful without an overdose of oil. The tacos at Isla were good too, sorry to see that place go.

That is the thing about El Segundo.. it has flavor and not dripping in oil.
