This will bode well for Wynn and my hometown of Everett, MA where Steve wants to build a hotel casino. Caesars under the guise of Ganesevoort (sp?) wants to put one up at Suffolk Downs in E. Boston. I'd say they're looking pretty shady to the MA Gaming Commission who will nake the decision on the one license currently available.

The Suffolk Downs-Caesars tie-up is no more as a result of Massachusetts Gaming's report. Wynn's not necessarily a shoo-in either, as the suitability report for Wynn Resorts is in progress, as is the one for MGM Resorts (who are proposing on in Downtown Springfield). You have to remember that Wynn was almost stripped of his NJ Gaming license back in the mid-80s (longtime allegations of mob ties) which still dog him to this day and sold the Golden Nugget in A.C. as a result. MGM lost their NJ gaming license because of their involvement with Pansy Ho (whose family controlled the casino concession in Macau for many years and are rumored to have ties to organized crime elements in Asia), so that relationship may sink their bid as well. Massachusetts' gaming board seems to want to be very strict compared to Nevada (where Pansy Ho's involvement in MGM Resorts was not an issue to gaming regulators) even more than NJ. In some states that have casinos, if the operator already has a Nevada or NJ gaming licence, they rubber stamp the license for that state.

I agree. I believe the W. Springfield proposal won't affect either the Everett or E. Boston bids as there is an additional license available for what is considered the western part of MA. The nature of the industry is such that you will always be able to dig up some sleaze if you want to. And MA, which is not many years removed from the era of blue laws, is indeed being very careful.
