If this pans out the way the model shows, it will make that corner a disaster.

I guess this is cheaper than paying to maintain the moving sidewalks......

Considering the number of kiosks proposed, there's going to be a lot of kiosks selling the same junk, like cheap sunglasses, cell phone accessories, cheap Las Vegas shirts and hats, fortune tellers, etc. What would be a better use of the space would be to keep the section along Flamingo as it currently is, as that park-like setting is nice. Get rid of the current entryway into Bally's and instead of a bunch of unnecessary kiosks selling crap, put in an outdoor stage area and a restaurant/beer garden with a huge patio for people watching.

Yeah I agree with Vespa, it would be great to have a restaurant with good people watching. Lots of good Vegassy stuff goes on in front of Bally's.

I would of thought they would of done something similar to planet Ho.

I have to admit the front looks very dated and anything they do I would hope is a plus.

I think a restaurant is fine, but not cheap and tacky marketplace stuff. I like the front of Bally's. Yes, it's dated, but it is clean and neat and I like how it cycles through all the colors. I like the flowers, and that there are so many places to sit outside when it is nice.

Part of the problem is that they can never seem to maintain it. There are always sections of the moving sidewalk that are out of service and it was even worse when I was out there in October, as with the rain on Wednesday and Thursday, they had the entire entryway blocked off until Saturday (but there were still some out of service sections as usual). For Caesars Entertainment, deferred maintenance should be their motto. All of their properties not named Caesars Palace or Planet Hollywood have peeling paint on their facades. signs in need of repair (Best known example is the Paris balloon marquee.) and tired appearances. If MGM Resorts can afford to renovate the rooms at all of their properties, Caesars could as well (Beyond the half-assed renovations like the the FAB Rooms at the Flamingo.). Turning the area in front of Bally's into a giant flea market is cheaper for them to maintain.

All of that area, including the covered entryway into Bally's was originally parking for the property dating back to when it was the MGM Grand (Many of the older hotels had parking right in front and over the years either expanded their casinos into those areas or built hotel towers on them.

Someone told me (not this is true but histo may know) most of that area was the footprint of the old MGM Grand hotel/casino that burned down and which people died. What we know as of today as the long area of entrance, may have been considered 'sacred ground' back then... just like twin towers in New York.

Not the case at all. The North Tower at Bally's is the old MGM Grand tower that was open at the time of the fire (The South Tower was under construction at the time.). The basic layout of Bally's (and even the exterior of the buildings) is pretty much as it was when it was the MGM Grand.

The property reopened a little over eight months after the fire and was sold to Bally's back in 1985.

Here's a photo of the property not too long after it reopened in 1981:

Fred Segal Coming To Bally's Grand Bazaar
Quote:
Other issues abound, including safety and security. They are on it.
And, finally getting rid of the street people who congregate by the escalators. You've seen them.
"Smut peddlers" they were called during the meeting, plus the other street performers who cram
this corner of the Strip. They'll all be gone when the Bazaar is ready to open.

The idea reminds me of what we saw at Bryant Park at Christmas. Still not sure it's a good idea and the high end products are a strange fit for the Bally's demographic
