I think they should start the cleanup with pressure washers.

I think they could clean it up by making it a requirement for any person collecting "moneys" tips or otherwise to have a business license. They already require other businesses to have a license and they could do it under the idea that they need to collect sales tax or whatever tax, then set the license fee at some high amount that most people would not pay!

And if you're caught without having a license, they fine you. Based on some articles I've read in the past six months or so, many of these costumed characters/celebrity impersonators barely make any money because most folks either don't tip or tip poorly. Waaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!

When you have to walk the gauntlet of costumed characters, porn slappers, club pass hawkers and time share hawkers while walking certain areas of the Strip (Bally's to Planet Hollywood and the entire length of the sidewalk in front of Bellagio.), it gets a bit annoying. I know when I was out there in December, the gauntlet started on the bridge over Flamingo between Caesars and Bellagio, included the length of the sidewalk in front of Bellagio and ended in front of the entrance to Jockey Club. One panhandler on the pedestrian bridge was actually telling folks they could throw their coins at him (made me wish I had a 50 cent piece.......).

It's definitely a quality of life issue as well as a safety issue.

I miss the days when I walked the strip and there were no costumed characters. Get rid of them, and the porn slappers. And the Jesus people. I just want to walk down the strip (or shuffle, depending on the crowds) with no one hassling me. Is that really too much to ask?

All of this just reaffirms to me that my philosophy of renting a car, staying off Strip and at the point I want to visit a Strip casino, drop the car at the valet station of my desired location and walk in. I might walk the sidewalk the distance between adjoining Strip casinos, as I did when I went to the Wicked Spoon for breakfast after leaving the car at the B. But it's beyond me why folks want to subject themselves to the miserable conditions existing on the sidewalks and pedestrian bridges between Sahara and Tropicana Avenues.

Somebody (Ballys?, Coors?) got the bright idea to park a tractor trailer on the sidewalk at the corner of LVB and Flamingo (in front of the escalator), open a flap and *poof* a sidewalk bar, complete with March Madness on big screen TV. They put out tables and chairs, sold more booze. Next to that were street "performers" straight from the 7-11 complete with drum-sets and cheap amplifiers, next to that were acrobats, next to that was Buzz and Woody, next to that were beggers, next to that were drunk spring breakers everywhere, drunk, next to that were low class drunk sluts with children (I don't use the word slut lightly) looking for a room (I heard one with a baby in a sling say "two for the price of one!" to a guy). The porn slappers were the most normal people there. The strip was log jammed, gridlocked, not to mention filthy. Garbage everywhere and the sidewalks were sticky, gross. The escalators were not moving. Once you got away from the madness there were more beggers with abused dogs and cats as props. This all occurred at 5pm. I don't even want to know what it's like at night.

I have to say it was not much better across the street on the "stroll" next to Bellagio. All of the riff raff and crap kind of took away from the elegant ambiance of the place. Bigtime.

The Strip needs more police, but casinos shouldn’t foot the bill

The article on the 6 performers was so on the spot, the violinist they mention is very, very talented and if you have not sat and listened to him you have missed a great talent.

I have nothing against talented street performers (underline talented). That said, when "those six" are performing and people are in mobs of a hundred or more people gathered around, blocking the sidewalk while watching them and there is no way to get around or through the mob if you are on your way to somewhere. The "mob" is pinned between LV Blvd. and the performer. It's impossible to get through it
without pushing and shoving your way through, then people are pissed. It's not a good situation.

I agree, Virginia. I want TALENTED people to get the attention they deserve, but it's just not a good thing to block sidewalks. It's not safe, either. Maybe they should all move to the Fremont St area? I don't know. I DO know that that saxophone guy on Fremont makes me want to scream, though. He's so freaking LOUD.

Yes, I'm old.

There are already too many useless "performers" downtown. No thank you!
